Wedding invite says “Feel free to bring finger food” !!!?

There will be about a 100 people at this wedding. I won’t know most of them. They are doing everything as cheap as possible. The bride will be standing at the alter with the groom, no march. they spent money on one thing, a used wedding dress. The church and reception room are free.They have money, there just cheap. I gave the groom lots of ideas for an inexpensive wedding that will still be nice. He said he wasn’t even going to buy a cake. So the brides mother is paying for one. A small one. What am I expected to do? Buy a bag of Doritos? And what about a gift? They have a fully furnished house. I asked other guests and from what I can tell about 3 people are bringing food. But with 100 people coming that won’t be enough. There isn’t anyone coordinating the food.When I asked the groom I was told just bring some finger food for everybody. Any ideas?

If they want to keep costs way down, that’s fine…and actually smart in my opinion. However, when they start asking guests to help foot the bill, that’s a bit rude. Asking people to bring food is tacky…and as you said, you can’t be expected to bring enough to share with even half that many people so what do they expect? I don’t know…but if I were their guests, I would expect to be stopping at a restaurant for dinner after the reception that evening.

As for a gift, get them a gift card, since they’ve already got the basic needs covered.
