Can I wear a long black dress to a formal wedding where the bridesmaids are wearing black?

I’m going to a wedding as my boyfriend’s guest. I know that the bridesmaids will be wearing black, and I was wondering if I could wear a long, black dress to this wedding? It’s a “very formal” summer wedding. Is this totally inappropriate?

A long gown is obviously in order. You’ll want to make sure you look fashion-forward. Find a dress that will help you stand-out without upstaging the bride or a simple dress that you can dress up with accessories. However, since the bridesmaids are already wearing black, go for a dress in a jewel tone instead.
