Please, please, please, please, please DO NOT buy your wedding dress from an online seller. I work as a bridal consultant in a bridal shop, and have heard more than enough horror stories from brides who “bought” their dress online, only to have the whole thing be something totally not what they thought they were buying. I’ve even had brides who wind up WITHOUT A DRESS, and are in my store literally in tears because it’s a month till the wedding, and she still doesn’t have a dress.

However, having said this, I have seen people have better luck with the oncewed.com website. It’s private sellers and buyers, for the most part, but there’s still the possibility of being ripped off. Unfortunately, there are very unscrupulous people out there who prey on brides. Be very, very careful when buying anything online, but particularly a wedding dress. I have absolutely no knowledge of preloved.com, and would initially treat it as a scam site. I’m sorry, but I’ve just seen too many of them.

If the gown of your dreams is out of your budget, then don’t despair. Go back to your bridal store (but not that one, because I’d never let you put on a gown that’s out of your price range), and try on dresses. You can also try private sellers on e-bay, or even craigslist. If you live near Chicago or New York, I know there are a few consignment stores in both cities who deal with designer gowns.
