Wedding Dress Alterations?

Okay, so here’s the deal. I purchased my Maggie Sottero dress at a small bridal shop outside of town. The floor model that I tried on was an okay fit in the skirt but the top piece was a little tight (it is two pieces.) I requested that they order mine new because if I was paying $1100 for a dress then I wanted a new one. They convinced me that I needed to order two sizes bigger and it wouldn’t be a big deal with the alterations. At the time, and the way they talked, I assumed the alterations were included in the dress cost. Now 2 months from the wedding and a week before my first fitting I learn that alterations are not included. My fiance is furious (to say the least). From what we have heard the cost of alterations is determined by what has to be done. This is really unfair considering they ordered a dress that would obviously be too big.
How do you think I should handle this without seeming like a “Bridezilla”?

I agree that they should have explained things a little better. Alterations are never included in the cost of the dress unless the boutique tells you they are. Since to tried on the floor model, them suggesting a larger size was in your best interest. That dress has been tried on by a lot of people and everytime someone puts it on, it stretches and get a bit bigger. If the top was tight, then you probably did need a bigger size. You should always order a dress that is too big b/c it can be made smaller – a smaller dress cannot be made bigger. If you would have gone with the smaller size and it didn’t fit, you wouldn’t have been able to return that dress and you would’ve had to buy another one. The alterations are definitely cheaper than buying a new dress.
