How much is too much for a wedding cake?

My fiance thinks that $750 is too much to spend on a cake that will feed 120 of our guests. He would rather go to Publix. I don’t and I am determined to use Eddas for our wedding cake. Any suggestions?

I would say try and stick under $500 but that is just me. I’m so tired of hearing “______ is the most important part of the wedding” because whichever vendor you are dealing with they will fill in that blank with whatever they are selling. i.e. The cake is most important, the dress is most important, the food is most important….but when it comes down to it what is most important is the commitment you are making that day. Personally that is way too much to pay for a cake in my opinion. Cake is flour and sugar for the most part and some higher end places jack up the price because of the name but you can find someone reasonable to make a great tasting cake. More money does not equal better quality. My sister spent about what you are saying on her cake from a famous cake place and it tasted whatever. Not better or worse than others I have had from different cheaper places. Some people will talk about the design on a cake and how it’s the “centerpiece” of the wedding. What I say to them is…how silly! The bride and groom are the centerpiece of the wedding and I laugh at you for thinking it’s the cake. My guests are coming to my wedding for my fiance and I…not the cake, not the food, not the dress, not the bar, not the favors, not all the other ridiculous odds and ends weddings have these days.
