Wedding Ceremonies/Receptions in Cook County, Illinois?

Alright, so I have about 3 months to help plan a fast wedding on May 23rd of this year for my boyfriend’s sister. I’m looking everywhere I can online and everything is so expensive. I have no idea where they DO NOT church style wedding. They are so anti-religion, it’s not even funny, which might make this quest even harder. I have no idea what to do, still searching for everything. If anyone can help with this, I’d be much obliged. The theme they want is going to be like a modern twist on the 20′s. The groom and her brother (he’s walking her down the aisle) are going to wear zoot suits, trying to find fedoras and stufff. Their kids will all be matching in the get up! The colors probably will be red and black, I’m looking for an awesome place that’s functional for reception and ceremony. I’m guessing there will only be about 50 guests, maybe a little more. I know that no one is made of money, but are there any tips that you can offer me? I’ve never planned a wedding! Help!

I got engaged on New Year’s Eve and am getting married the following Friday after your boyfriend’s sister. I understand the pain of planning a wedding so quickly, but it makes things exciting.

Okay, here’s what I suggest you do:
*Don’t panic! That makes you jittery and you’ll jump at anything, even if it’s way too expensive.
*Call in some favors. If they want a fancy wedding cake, figure out if there’s anyone in their family (the bride OR the groom’s) and see if they’ll make the cake for them. The same goes for photography, catering, decorating, etc. If someone in the family can do it, ask them and tell them that it can be their wedding present to the couple.
*Find a local college/high school and tap into their resources. Surely there’s a school around that’s done a play like Bye, Bye Birdie or a play from that era. They probably have a costume section with zoot suits. You could donate $50 to the school in exchange for the rental of the suits and some of their play backdrops and such. Colleges are great breeding grounds for people who will work for nothing. College students are willing to be servers, photographers, DJs, florists, and so much more for $5-10/hour because it will get them some experience and exposure. An additional suggestion if you hire a college student is to ask for references and to see their former work. If they have no former work, ask them to perform a demo of some sort for you.
*Search for after holiday sales. It might drive you crazy to have to wait to buy things. But wait until AFTER Valentine’s day to buy silk flowers, bows, tablewear, etc. because it will all be on clearance.
